Garcia Yachts

I have always fancied the exploration designed yachts. They just scream heavy duty and robust, which I like for anything I’m going to be sailing around the world. Aluminum has been the choice material for many reputable exploration yachts of the past. Garcia Yachts of France seems to think, “why mess with success”. Take a…

Yachting Anyone?

There are big rigs and then there are big rigs! Perini Navi and Ron Holland deliver once again in typical fashion. This incredible yacht, “Felicita West”, cuts no corners. Check out the video that showcases some of the vessels highlights. As well as the refit and massive mast stepping project undertaken by Seahawke Rigging along with…

The World’s Largest Mast….

…was stepped last month at the Perini Navi Yard in Italy.  Just look at the size of the masthead! [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pEsuYH-Dt4&w=560&h=315]   This incredible carbon fiber wonder measures just over 250′ and weighs in at just over 16 metric tons…pretty light considering. The furling boom provided by Future Fibres could be its own sailing yacht…

The New Boss

The IMOCA Open 60 Hugo Boss team is growing and has added an American by the name of Ryan Breymaier. This guy has many accolades in sailing, one of them being the ‘Golden Route’ record: New York to San Francisco by way of Cape Horn. Recently he took the New York to Barcelona ‘Ocean Masters‘…

The Symbol of the Modern Americas Cup

USA-17, the fixed wing revolution icon, meets its final resting place just in front of Oracle’s Headquarters in Redwood City, California. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vladvQR5C18&w=560&h=315] Apparently it is quite the process to make this happen, but relative to the world of Americas Cup costs, this is just a drop in the bucket.

No Rudder, No Problem!

Ever wonder, “what if we lose steerage”? Well this little video, brought to you by our friends at Yachting Monthly, covers a few concepts to help allow you to get your boat back under control. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99KSZ3mEoKQ&w=420&h=315]   They say that they took a rudderless GK29 and tried 3 different ways of steering it. Maybe…

40 Years in Review #VolvoOceanRace

I liked this on Facebook and thought I’d share. A look back at the History, the ‘high’s’ and the ‘low’s of what has become my favorite sailing event in the world… [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cp4ydArnzgc&w=560&h=315]) R.I.P. “Only the good die young”

German Engineering at its Finest

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x40O8I_dcr0&w=560&h=315] Check out this new yacht! The Hanse 575 has some pretty impressive features to say the least. Although it is riddled with modern design and not for you classic lines types, it is still worth a look. From the deck sweeping, self-tending headsail. To the really unique dinghy bay and wash down station…

Classic Lines, Modern Comforts, and…

…easy to handle. The Tofinou 12 is hard to be outdone as far looks and ease of sail handling are concerned. I really like the sort of “Dragon-ish” foredeck design which puts the headstay several feet in from the very point of the boat. This allows the asymmetrical spinnaker to be flown via an internal tack…

Vitters Carbon #whatayacht

Vitters Shipyard does it again. “Sarissa” a 42.6 m (140.58′) carbon fiber spectacle, is the largest carbon sloop built in the Netherlands, maybe even in the world, to date. Check out the Vitters Shipyard YouTube feed for more super yacht footage. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POFjB0mIaBc&w=560&h=315] This design oozes modern style, remarkable speed (it cruises at 11 knots) and offers…
