After Annapolis Boat Show

Good people, good gear, and free beer at our booth set the stage for yet another Annapolis Sailboat Show in the books. Thanks to everyone who stopped by The Rigging Company and BSI at O-13/O-14. We had warm weather, rain, a windy Saturday, and a cool finish. Pretty much the full Chesapeake sampler….a typical Annapolis Sailboat Show.

BSI Rod Rigging: ten years and counting

Turns out, this year we’ve been working with BSI USA for 10 years now, since 2016. I have to say it has been a wonderful relationship and we’re proud to be their exclusive Mid-Atlantic rod rigging dealer. Whether it’s identifying a fitting or planning a complete rod re-fit, we really think that having the right people on the other end of the phone makes all the difference.

Thinking about rod? Browse our rod rigging or read wire vs. rod vs. synthetic. Let’s get the details right.

Seldén: make the big sails easier

Seeing some of this year’s new products, we took notice of Seldén’s brand new CXr Code 0 and top-down furling systems. Although ratchet systems are more and more common nowadays, this system has a unique feature in that the ratchet lock can simply be overcome by a strong pull in the preferred direction instead of toggling the line back and forth to engage the ratchet in the opposite direction if needed. Pretty neat! Having a ratchet that works in both directions allows the user to pause while furling and still greatly mitigate the deadly “backtwist” scenario. Seldén’s systems, as always, are complete with swivel, drum, torsion cable and some very easy-to-use cable terminals. Just add the appropriate tack swivel adapter for top-down asymmetric furling and any furling accessories to match your needs. See our top-down furling guide and our Seldén furling options; click the links for more details.

A worthwhile mention: the compact CXe25 and CXe45 bring push-button Code sail handling, with on-deck and through-deck installations. At TRC, we find that powering the furler makes the whole furling experience smoother and easier.

Our Friends in Florida

We had a great little party with our friends at Mack Sails AND The Yacht Rigger. Maybe too good, LOL. By the way, the “loo gauge” pun was born that very night. See the link to our Cyclops article below. Thanks for the laughs and the good talk, guys! Our St. Thomas shop is a Mack Sails distributor, so give us a shout about that new main or headsail. Our St. Thomas shop looks forward to helping your sails and rigging work together.

Kingfisher and Maffioli: more rope to talk about

We’re planning on offering more Kingfisher rope selections for our Annapolis and our St. Thomas locations. Their expanded US partnership with Gottifredi Maffioli gives us plenty to get excited about. Halyards, sheets, control lines, and more: the right rope for the job. Check out our rope clutch discussion and boat rope if you’re ever looking for more reading material.

Cyclops: what’s your rig actually carrying?

Cyclops smarttune²: live load data from your standing rigging.

Cyclops is the leader (as far as we’re concerned) in sailboat rigging load sensing technology. SmartTune load sensors and load pins are just some of the products they offer, bringing repeatable settings and live loads underway to a user interface that is easy to understand and easy to read.

By the way, Cyclops is doing an introductory special through The Rigging Company: buy two eligible SmartTune, SmartPin, or Digital Direct sensors and receive a free BG11 Multi Gateway with Smart Rig Manager for a limited time. Ask us about it and we will confirm current eligibility.

Be sure to browse our SmartTune and the BG11 collections. For more info dig into our Cyclops load sensing article.

Have a question or just want to talk about it? Give us a ring. We’d be glad to help.
