Type 316 Stainless Steel KOS (Korean) Wire. Vinyl-coated wire uses a 7×7 core wire encapsulated in a vinyl coating. Vinyl-coated wire was a popular lifeline option at one time, although today 1×19 uncoated wire is the most commonly used lifeline material. Note that USCG offshore safety requirements now require lifelines to be 1×19 uncoated wire for boats racing offshore.

Vinyl-coated wire diameters correspond to overall outer diameters as follows:
1/8″ Wire – 1/4″ OD
5/32″ Wire – 7/32″ OD
3/16″ Wire – 5/16″ OD
1/4″ Wire – 3/8″ OD
