Emergency Spare Stay Kit

Modern high-strength synthetic rigging makes it possible to carry a dependable emergency stay without storing heavy coils of spare wire onboard. Our Emergency Spare Stay Kit provides a compact, adaptable solution designed to get you safely underway again after rigging damage offshore.

Each kit uses New England Ropes V12 single-braid Vectran line with UV protection, offering extremely low stretch and high strength in a lightweight, easily stowed package. Pre-spliced loops allow the stay to be quickly attached using a simple luggage-tag connection at both mast and deck or turnbuckle locations.

The included C.S. Johnson Handi-Lock turnbuckle features flip-out handles that allow fast, tool-free tensioning, making emergency deployment possible even in difficult conditions.

Designed by professional riggers, this system can be adapted to nearly any stay location or attachment style, making it a practical safety addition for offshore sailors, passagemakers, and coastal cruisers alike.

Each kit includes:

  • C.S. Johnson Handi-Lock turnbuckle
  • Pre-spliced synthetic spare stay (New England Ropes V12 Vectran)
  • T.R.C. deck attachment loop
  • T.R.C. mast attachment loop
  • Finishing materials (rigging tape, zip ties, heat shrink)

Available kit sizes:

  • Small: 1/2″ pin turnbuckle with 6 mm V12 stay
  • Medium: 1/2″ pin turnbuckle with 8 mm V12 stay
  • Large: 5/8″ pin turnbuckle with 8 mm V12 stay
  • XL: 5/8″ pin turnbuckle with 10 mm V12 stay

Note: Stay length and loop sizing are custom-built for each boat. Boat make and model are required to complete your order, and mast measurements may need to be verified before production.

Carrying a ready-to-deploy spare stay is a simple upgrade that can make a critical difference when offshore.
