In order to achieve the desired performance of a top-down furling system when using a Code 0 or asymmetric spinnaker, the halyard load must be higher than what normal halyard boxes and stoppers can handle. Therefore, a 2:1 purchase is recommended to be used. The halyard is dead-ended at the mast (preferably with a swivel – we recommend EquipLite – to allow twist to be removed from the system) and run through a block attached to the top swivel of the furler before running to the mast sheave or block.
